At busybusy, we don’t have the expertise needed for answering all labor rate law questions due to ever-changing rules and requirements. Fortunately, this government website clearly explains each state’s labor rate laws and will be a great resource for you as you review labor rate policies for your company!

There are many reasons an admin or owner could find value in referring to the labor rate laws, one being if you have employees who are working in different states. Maybe your home state follows standard overtime where any hours worked over 40 in a week need to be paid at an overtime rate, but your neighboring state requires overtime rates to be paid after 12 hours worked in a day.

Another common labor rate rule is based on how many employees your company has. Some minimum wage requirements aren’t enforced until you’ve reached 25 employees, and some states don’t consider family members working for you as employees.

Did you know you can customize your overtime rules at the company level and for individual employees? Check out this article for more information on how to set overtime rules within busybusy.

As you can see, there are many varying rules that contribute to labor rate laws in each state. Although we do our best to stay updated and provide our busybusy clients with accurate information, state labor laws should be reviewed in detail by each company.
