What do the "location disclosures" on your mobile device mean for you as a busybusy app user? Spoiler alert - We still aren’t recording any information unless you’re clocked in!
Starting in iOS 13 and Android 10, mobile phone operating systems strive to make sure that you know what is impacting your privacy. Because of these changes, you may see notifications that say something like, “busybusy has used your location x times in the last three days. Do you want to continue to allow background location use?” We are totally transparent here at busybusy, so let’s talk about that notification!
Here are some of the questions we’ve heard from some of you about those notifications and busybusy.
Q: I thought busybusy only records data when I am clocked in? Why am I seeing this notification?
A: busybusy only records your location information when you are clocked in! We, like you, care about privacy. Those pins you may see on those 3-day location history notifications are times when the device has given busybusy your location. If clocked in, the locations could be recorded; if clocked out, the locations could be used to remind you to clock in. These location “checks” are NOT recorded. busybusy can remind you to clock in if you are near a project. To be able to remind you, busybusy has to be aware, at a very low level, of where you are so that it can perform those reminders. Again, those location pins are NOT recorded anywhere in busybusy’s system while you are clocked out.
Q: Can my boss see where I am when I am not clocked in?
A: No. busybusy does not record any location information when you are not clocked in. Due to this, your boss/company has no way of viewing your location data when you are not on the clock.
Q: Does busybusy sell my location history?
A: No. We respect your privacy! busybusy does not sell your clocked-in location data, and we do not record your location while you are clocked out.
Q: Why are you grabbing my location in the background on the weekends when I’m not clocked in?
A: The map that pops up as a warning about having your location services set to “Always” is generated by the operating system of your mobile device. That map shows you where your mobile device recently shared your location with busybusy. We do not have those locations recorded.
Q: Why do I have to set my GPS to allow busybusy to “Always” use my location?
A: Apple and Android changed their technology in 2019, requiring us to have that setting on “Always” to update your location while you are clocked in. We can reassure you 100% that our app records the location ONLY while you are clocked-IN.
Q: How do I stop those location disclosures?
A: The easiest way to stop those location disclosures from appearing is by setting the location settings on your device for busybusy to “Always”. This tells the phone that you are aware of busybusy’s use of your location and not to prompt you with those disclosures.
Q: Can I use busybusy with my location services turned off?
A: That is a question for your employer. busybusy does not determine whether or not you are required to turn on your location services. Certain functionalities of the app will be limited if your location services are turned off.
Your privacy is vital to us here at busybusy. We’re a bunch of hard-working folks just like you who are focused on building and bettering an app that is easy for you to use and gives your team good data to make great decisions about the jobs you work on. |
